Fork legs came back from Canada and this time everything lined up. My local CNC machinist made me the two brackets needed for the steering damper – one to attach to the front fork left leg and the other to hold it to the frame tube. The brackets are made of aluminium and therefore I wanted to put in Helicoils to improve the strength of the threads. And now I find myself struggling to find somebody to insert the Helicoils without bankrupting me. I think I will buy a set and do it myself.
Here is the Steering Damper attached with the 2 brackets – the one on the frame tube is open because I have not fitted Helicoils and there is no room for a nut on the underside.
And below a few pictures of the front fork, front wheel and brake calipers & discs. The left side brake disc rivets are dragging against the brake linings so some filing will be needed to create a clearance. I will keep the Avon tyre up front and the Bridgestone at the rear.
